They have clearly done some work on it and it shows. Is it perfect? No, there is no software on the market yet that has this video file format fully tamed.
It's better than most and if you have climbed aboard the AVCHD express then this software is well worth checking out on your computer.

Ok the previous version could do this and lots of other video editing software can do this too. BUT! This video format is by far the most problematic of the current new breed of highly compressed high definition formats.
Very few of the available video editors could be said to be editing these files with ease. Corel VideoStudio ProX2 is definitely not, Cyberlink Power Director 8 is doing ok and some of the others are doing ok too but it is largely dependent on computer resources.
I took a couple of AVCHD clips into Magix Movie Edit Pro 15 and gave it a bit of a workout.
Magix Movie Edit Pro 15 is not the answer to your AVCHD prayers... yet! They are doing ok and it is better than all the others at the consumer level.

Magix Movie Edit Pro 15
Ok this maybe is a bit of a "bells and whistles" feature but hey! It's really cool!
Corel in their infinite wisdom, stopped development of the Ulead Cool3D product and subsequently dropped it from VideoStudio...stupid. Anyway Magix Movie Edit Pro15 comes with this great little feature that allows you to make animated 2D and 3D titles for your projects.
Color Correction
Magix have reworked the interface of this feature and it makes it much easier to adjust the color values of your videos. Adjusting color in any video is a touchy subject and mileage certainly will vary but of the current batch of video editing software this module allows pretty good control.
Magix Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus has retained its wizard based editing and publishing tools for amateurs with quite a good collection of editing tools for those familiar with more complex editing tasks. It offers bluescreen effects, both timeline and storyboard views and multi-track editing.

Online Video Sharing and Portable Devices
Some of the more important features include easy and direct sharing to YouTube and wide compatibility with portable devices like Sony PSPs, iPods and cell phones.
Screen Capture
(and something unusual)
Another feature I particularly like is the screen capturing feature which, like Camtasia, allows you to capture in real time anything you are doing on the computer screen as a video file. This is a great feature for doing "How to" type videos.
On top of all that they also throw in a copy of their Vasco da Gama travel route animation program which although not a vital feature really makes those travel routes so much easier to do.
I have said often on other parts of this site that all the software I recommend here is very good. So the question remains...
Why Magix Movie Edit Pro instead of any of the others?
This is a feature that consumer level video editors have never included as part of their repertoire and is simply an incredible feature to have.
