MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus is the latest version of Magix consumer level video editing software program and like many others in this category, is beginning to look more  like the pro’s every day.

Probably the first thing to get out of the way with this release is the announcement that MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus can edit and produce 3D videos.

If you have read any of my other reviews or the section on this site about how to choose video editing software then you will understand that I consider this to be a “bells and whistles feature.”

It is a marketing device being used to distract you with bright shiny objects so that you think, “Oooh wow! I just gotta have that new fangled thingy.”

So let’s get it all in perspective.

3D Video Editing

Yes, MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus can import your existing 3D footage and edit it. Of course the only way you are going to get your hands on some 3D footage is if you have a 3D camcorder or you have used two camcorders to record the same footage from slightly different angles.

To view in 3D you will need a 3D TV or you will need 3D glasses for a standard TV but you will also have to suffer the indignity of wearing them. I prefer to think of this as an activity better done alone or only with very close friends or immediate family.

My take on it is that this is technology that is barely ready for prime time and should not really play any part in your ultimate decision. So with that out of the way let’s get down to the real business.

MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus User Interface

Given that MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus is one of the most feature packed video editing products at this level of the market the user interface remains reasonably smooth and for editing software quite intuitive.

If you have been using another type of software for some time or if this is your first video editing software program then yes, there will be a learning curve as you begin to find your way around the interface but within its class Magix does very well.

The interface offers both a timeline view of your project for fine tuning your edits or you can easily switch to a storyboard view when you need to step back and see the big picture.

There is a good Help function you can access from within the program itself but best of all there is an active user forum at the Magix site that is a great source of tips tricks and other useful advice.
