VideoStudio Overview
This new version of Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 boasts a streamlined user interface that is sleek, attractive and easy to use.
As a word of warning nearly all the consumer level video editing software programs these days have feature sets that would out gun any prosumer software from 3 years ago.
As a result there must be a way to access all these new features and capabilities without lumping it all on the first screen you hit!
So be prepared to take some time finding your way around, reading the instructions and if necessary hitting the help forum.
Before you begin to wonder if the software can do what you want… relax!
It probably can but you just need to find the right function! Everything you will usually need is on the screen in front of you and the more advanced stuff is often only a click or two away into a sub-menu.
Corel VideoStudio still has one of the most generous preview screens on the market (shown below) and the program’s ability to preview your work in real time has been enhanced greatly due to the previously mentioned performance improvements.

Video Studio Editing Interface
In this version of VideoStudio Pro, Corel have addressed two major issues that have plagued the software for a few years now.
The first is speed. VideoStudio Pro has always been a pig as far as installation goes and it was not unusual to hear of wasted hours spent waiting for VideoStudio to get around to installing itself! The same went for opening the program. Even if you activated the pre-loader in Windows it still seemed to take forever to open up and get started.
This has been completely handled in VideoStudio Pro X3. From double clicking the installer to having the program opened up for the first time and ready to roll took me 7 minutes which is very good considering the size of the program itself and its complexity.
The same goes for opening the program to use. The long wait while nothing seemed to be happening has been replaced by a ten second “double click to ready for action” opening process.
The second issue is that of editing AVCHD footage. Previous editions could handle these often difficult files but doing so was more an art than a science. Additionally there was a bug in the rendering of these files when the program was inserting transitions between clips. This has now been addressed and although not totally perfect no consumer program is at this point.
Overall VideoStudio Pro X3 looks and feels like the kind of software you would expect when an established software maker actually listens to the long time users and addresses their concerns.
